This Festival is ENORMOUS! We are working with so many other arts organisations in the area, almost twenty of them, who are all contributing an artist or a workshop idea and swelling our program to no end. It's absolutely amazing to see all these people coming out of the woodwork and being so incredibly enthusiastic about what we're trying to do, but it is also getting huge - the more people, the more difficult it is to manage.
At the moment I'm in artist proposal and contract mode. I've been drawing up a form for the artists to fill out that will basically be their proposal for the work so that I can begin to get a more concrete idea of how I will program everything and where everything can be positioned. It's going to be really helpful to have that soon, not only so that I can get on with programming but so that we can give PR and media more information and so that we can begin to apply for council permits. I'm really hoping the artists can get things to me by the due date I've set. Really, really hoping.
In other news, our sponsorship/ funding situation is essentially the same, if not a little more positive. It turns out that the chairman of the company that is currently our major sponsor is also the chairman of a major bank, who is looking to improve their community goodwill. It might be the perfect fit for us. We've been working on the sponsorship proposal and I just have to finalise it over the weekend so that we can get it to them by Monday.
It's a Saturday night and I'm still up to my eyeballs in contracts to finalise, artists and organisations to email and sponsorship documents to fix up. I think it's making me feel a little sick. So I hope you'll understand if I sign off now. It's getting hectic.
It all sounds so busy!! Hope everything is running smoothly & that your artists get back to you on time, and can't wait to hear the next installment!
ReplyDeleteI'm keen to get an update now too! That sponsorship opportunity sounds fantastic. How are the meetings going with the Festival Director, are you getting the support you need? There is no doubt that this will be such an incredibly valuable experience for you, not only in terms of the festival planning and delivery, but also in terms of the network with Chairman of Banks, Branding academics at Unis and no doubt all sorts of other amazing people.
